Pharmaceutical goods distribution adopts GMP standards
The Pharmaceutical terminals company (FARMAT) has received a GMP certificate proving its compliance with GOST R 52249 – 2009 (GMP) standards relating to acceptance, storage and shipment of pharmaceuticals. The certificate was issued by OAO VNIIS management systems certification authority VNIIS-CERT-OSM.
FARMAT received the GMP certificate in accordance with the National Pharmaceutical Industry Development Programme as prescribed by Order 965 of the Ministry of Industry and Trade dated 23 October 2009. According to the Programme, certification of pharmaceutical companies to GMP standards is among the priorities of pharmaceutical industry’s development. All enterprises involved in the production and distribution of medicines are to get GMP certificates.
Distribution is usually broken down into pre-wholesale preparation and wholesale trade.
FARMAT provides leading foreign and national pharmaceutical makers with pre-wholesale services preparing their goods for distribution in Russia. The complete range of services includes storage and management of pharmaceuticals at a pharmaceutically-licensed Class A warehouse, as well as drug certification and customs clearance at own temporary storage warehouse.
FARMAT is Russia’s largest pharmaceutical logistics operator. In 2009, a total of 264 million packages worth over 28 billion rubles in wholesale prices, or 10% of Russia’s pharmaceutical import, were shipped from the company’s warehouse.
FARMAT’s SOPs, storage facilities and equipment, safety, ventilation and climate control systems have been repeatedly inspected by major international companies to confirm their compliance with international quality standards and approve FARMAT as a logistics services provider to their representatives in Russia.
In his comments on the certification, FARMAT’s Director General I.Bahmetyev said, “That we have received the GMP certificate is strategically important. Now that FARMAT has been certified as compliant with international quality standards, the bar is set high in the Russian market of pharmaceutical logistics.”
